Conference announcement
The first All-Russian Conference on Liquid Crystals will be held September 17-21. 2012 in the city of Ivanovo, some 300 km north-east of Moscow. Although the official conference language is Russian, the first day will be devoted to a series of invited talks being given in English. The social program organised for foreign attendees will be very rewarding.

ILCS contact forms now working properly
Today the ILCS web master, Jan Lagerwall, discovered that the software used for making the ILCS contact forms was no longer working reliably. All forms have now been replaced with a modern version, and the contact forms should all work now.
We sincerely apologize if you have had difficulties contacting the ILCS or submitting information.
John Goodby FRS
Professor John W. Goodby of the University of York has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society. The Royal Society is possibly the oldest and most prestigious learned society in the world, founded in 1660.
Antal Jakli awarded the 2010 Luckhurst-Samulski prize
The winner of the 2010 Luckhurst-Samulski Prize, awarded by the journal Liquid Crystals, is the paper by Antal Jakli entitled Electro-mechanical effects in liquid crystals, which appeared in the Commemorative Issue dedicated to Alfred Saupe. Congratulations to Antal for this recognition of an excellent article!

BLCS awards 2010
Martin Schadt is the 2010 recipient of the G.W. Gray medal, Mike Hird was awarded the C. Hilsum medal, and Stephen Morris received the Young Scientist award.
