ILCS Mid-Career Awards
Names:
"SAMSUNG Award" and "LG Display Award"
Eligibility:
The Awards will recognize the contributions of mid-career researchers for
advancements in science and/or technology in the field of liquid crystals.
- The awards are exclusively for contributions to the field of Liquid Crystals.
- A nominee must not have previously received either of the two awards.
- The nominee must be between 10 and 25 years beyond his/her PhD degree.
- The cumulative body of research of a candidate should have significantly impacted the field of liquid crystal.
The Award:
The awards will constitute a citation for the contribution of the
awardee. Each awardee will receive a cash prize of approximately
US$2,500.
Nominations must be received by Professor Helen Gleeson, Chair of the
Honours and Awards Committee no later than April 10th 2008.
Procedures:
- The ILCS Awards Committee shall solicit nominations from ILCS general
membership in the beginning of the year in which an International Liquid
Crystal Conference is to be held.
- Any member of ILCS, excluding the members of the Awards Committee, may
nominate not more than one candidate.
- The nomination shall comprise of the candidates particulars (such as a
copy of recent CV and contact information), one page letter of nomination,
and a note from the candidate that s/he agrees to be a nominated. The letter
should cite the candidate's scientific contribution and its impact on the
field and why the contribution is outstanding. The nominator may submit
copies of not more than five items as representative scholarly work of
the nominee.
- A nomination not comprised of the items listed in section 3 above, may
be returned/rejected without consideration.
- After the window of nominations closes, the Awards Committee will submit
a summary of the slate of candidates to the President of ILCS.
- The Awards Committee will evaluate the candidates'â qualifications an
accomplishments and finalize a list of two awardees and one alternate. If
for whatever reason, the award cannot be given to one of the finalists, the
alternate will become an awardee.
- Chair of the Awards Committee and the President will decide which award
is bestowed on each finalist.
- The President will submit the names of the awardees to the Board of
Directors of ILCS for approval via electronic mail. This will be done 60 days
in advance of the ILCC.
- The President will send a notification to the two award sponsors one
week in advance of public announcement of the two award winners.
- The awards will be announced at least six weeks before the conference
(ILCC) begins.
- The awards will be bestowed and the candidates recognized at the Awards
Session at the ILCC.
- The award recipients will be expected to give a brief presentation
based on their work at the Awards Session.
