Supreet Kaur is currently working as a Senior Project Associate with Dr. C. V. Yelamaggad at the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru. She completed her Ph.D. with Dr. Santanu Kumar Pal from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Mohali in July 2022. Her research focuses on the design, synthesis, and characterization of chiral and achiral bent-core mesogens and the investigation of their unconventional liquid crystalline properties for miscellaneous device applications.

The photomicrograph represents birefringent nematic phase exhibited by an achiral four-ring hockey-stick-shaped compound.
The texture was observed upon cooling from the isotropic phase (at the rate of 10 °C/min) and captured under a Nikon Eclipse LV100POL polarizing optical microscope (POM) provided with a Linkam heating stage (LTS 420). The image was taken using a Q-imaging camera (10X magnification).
Jury comment: The photography shows defects that are characteristic in the LC field, and it is highly colorful and attractive from an aesthetic and artistic point of view.
