Asmita Shah is pursuing her Ph. D. at the Unité de Dynamique et Structure des Matériaux Moléculaires (UDSMM), Université du Littoral Côte d'Opale (ULCO), Calais, France, under the supervision of Prof. Redouane Douali, Prof. Abdelylah Daoudi and Dr. Dharmendra Pratap Singh. The principal objective of her thesis is to investigate the flexible organic electronic and photovoltaic applications of the discotic liquid crystals in their pristine form and also in the presence of different nanomaterials. She obtained her Integrated M. Tech. degree in 2017 from the Central University of Jharkhand and accomplished the Master's project on flexible Supercapacitors from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India. In 2018, she has also worked as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF) on Microfluidic devices at the Institute of Nano Science and Technology (INST), Mohali, India.

The scanning electron micrographic image manifests the stunning dendritic morphology of 2,3,6,7,10,11-hexabutyloxytriphenylene discotic liquid crystal (DLC) in the columnar plastic phase, where the dendrimers of DLC have been disseminated similarly to the branches of trees and roots.

The author would like to acknowledge Prof. Sandeep Kumar (Professor, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Bangalore, India) for his valuable assistance and resources to accomplish this research work.
The work was funded by Région, Hauts de France and Pôle Métropolitain Côte d’Opale (PMCO), France.
Jury comment: This image has been chosen because it shows a different "view" from the molecular organization of compounds leading to the liquid crystal state and close arrangement, then broadening the spectrum of self-assembly study techniques for mesomorphic molecules. This coupled with the aesthetic beauty and quality of photography.
