PhD Students

Our group at The State Key Laboratory on Advanced Displays and Optoelectronics Technologies (SKL) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has openings for two Ph.D. students in the area of the optical phase modulations using ferroelectric liquid crystals for LiDARs and Photonic applications. The SKL carries out research in many areas of display and photonics. Oxide thin film transistors (TFTs) array technology; third generation organic LEDs (OLEDs) devices; liquid crystal displays (LCDs) devices; video signal processing; IC design; and frontier technologies are key research directions at SKL. The Ph.D. students will work with a multidisciplinary team of experimental, theoretical, and material scientists in the field of liquid crystals and photoalignment. They will be involved in developing novel devices and test methods for testing new advanced ferroelectric liquid crystal materials for photonic applications.
The successful candidates will also be responsible for conducting research and writing scientific publications and technical reports. The successful candidate is expected to have a basic understanding of the liquid crystals, the photoalignment materials, and the process for the liquid crystals.
